Quick Introduction to the Sikh Faith
Sikhi (aka Sikhism) is a path that leads to the greatest happiness and fulfilment possible.
The teachings of the True Guru (i.e. the True Enlightener) free our spirits to soar to great
heights, allowing us to merge once again with the ultimate spirit - God.
A Sikh is one whose life is lived truthfully, without any lust, anger, greed, attachment or
ego. A Sikh remains constantly absorbed in the True Name, which is given as a gift to the Sikh
by the True Guru. Absorption in the True Name allows a Sikh to progress through the spiritual
stages towards God, eventually culminating in spiritual re-union with God, even before physical
death.
The teachings of the True Guru are spiritually enlightening. Great inner peace is attainable
from the Truth that is Sikhi.
In life we tend to do many things which, if we were to stop and think about, actually cause
us much pain and grief. How many of us ever have stopped to think about the reason we live?
Surely the reason for our existence is more than just to eat and be merry! Just as we have a
finite period of time to live, the pleasures we engage in also live only for a short while.
As we go through life, we build up a collection of bad deeds which remain with us.
Everything we do has a positive or negative effect. An example is the positive warm glowing
feeling we experience when we help somebody for no real reason or the negative guilt we feel
when we do wrong. Sikhi helps us to sweep away the negatives and build up the positives.
Sikhi teaches us to make the most of the opportunity we have as humans by earning spiritual
wealth. Through good deeds, absorption in the True Naam and companionship of other on the path
towards God, we can be united with God once again and be free from worldly pains.
The remaining moments we have left in life can be put to good use, regardless of who we are
or what we may have done in the past. The True Guru invites us to live a spiritually meaningful
and fulfilling life through the teachings of Sikhi.
